"For this purpose we are adding to the total, but of course there are many things that are also being added that are not as safe as we think."
In a statement, West Hartford Water Conservation District Director Robert Dyer said the district has asked the Department of Water Management for "appropriate measures" to take into consideration the impact of cleanup on the city and surrounding public lands.
Dyer declined to say whether the cleanup would affect West Hartford River. City officials did not respond to requests for comment about the issue.
