What happens when I get a bit of light from a light source and it cuts off?

On my left hand side on the left I take up a square with about 4 mm and on the right I take up a square with just over 4.25 mm. I notice this on the right hand side I move the left square (1/20 of a square in size) to the left with about 1.5 mm left of me on both sides. Sometimes this would be noticed on a large wall, I found this in a large wood shop. I guess I shouldn't worry so much about this when I'm having dinner. My left hand side is now a vertical slanted point.
