"The reason is for the habitat to allow sunlight instead of having to grow at a high rate of growth," said Jeff Wilcox, executive director for The Oregon Lily Association.

Other species of Oregon lily include the green and red lily, the bristle and the red hyphae, which are considered endangered, Wilcox said.

Wildly invasive species have also increased, though.

"The increased presence of invasive species throughout Portland and the city limits during the last few years has only added to the problem," B.J. Wicks says in a news release. "In the absence of a viable solution, habitat loss and threats of further wildlife loss will continue to be a major issue."

Oregon Lily Association and the B.J.W.] Oregon Livestock Management Association will continue to monitor and address the situation.
